Midsummer? Not so murderous!

Kai, Zoe and I are out at Danne and Helena's summer place. Tomorrow we will celebrate the great, Swedish, pagan holiday of Midsummer.

Ulrika felt that she wasn't really yet up to daubing herself in woad and dancing naked round the maypole, as is customary during the celebrations, so she has stayed in town to take it easy.Stockholm is like a ghost town during midsummer weekend. There is always a vaste exodus to the countryside. The lack of background noise from traffic is a real ear-opener. One suddenly realises how much background noise one endures every day when it's no longer there.

Tomorrow morning we will get up early and a tractor will drive all the children into the forest to pick wild flowers to decorate the maypole.

The whole celebration is very uncommercialised and amateur in the very best sense of the word.

Zoe has already been dancing a bit with Helena and Vendela to ensure that tomorrow night she will be a dancing queen, ready to pingle all night long!

  1. Yes,isn't the silence wonderful, even if it does make you aware of the daily background drone.

And yes again, the celebrations are so amateur. Though still too much so for moi myself: I still can't do the small frogs dance with any real conviction.
