At Viktor's party yesterday, I was more than a tad envious to hear that Karin, his mum, is off to Japan on a business trip. I am a fairly rabid Nipponophile and I intend to give her a crash course on anime and force her to see the complete works of Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon before she even gets on that plane. I'm sure she'll appreciate that!
A few years back, when I first started Going Japanese, Pete and Rachel in Brighton recommended Wrong about Japan by Peter Carey, his book about travelling to the Land of the Rising Sun with his teenage son.

I read it in one sitting. Marvelous both on Japanese culture and on a father son relationshop.
